YAEN INDHA IDAIVELI”[ WHY IS THIS GAP ?]
Tamil Book authored by me entitled “YAEN INDHA IDAIVELI”[WHY IS THIS GAP] was released on Monday, 18/05/2015 at 05:30PM at VANI MAHAL, T.Nagar, Chennai 600 017.
Our country has been well renowned for ages for its unique joint family system. Due to gradual degradation of values in society, this system has very badly crumbled now, forcing parents and elders to face humiliation and all sorts of abuse-Psychological, Verbal and also Physical. Show of utter disrespect to elders and even deserting them in the lurch are resorted to by the younger progeny! It is distressing to note that youngsters simply forget and ignore that they owe their very existence to the parents who have sacrificed everything in their life in the task of moulding and upbringing them.
In my 30 years of practice in GERIATIC MEDICINE,I am observing that things are going from bad to worse in this aspect. There is an urgent need to create awareness in the society on the need to arrest this trend. This has prompted me to write a book in Tamil titled ‘YAEN INDHA IDAIVELI?’ [WHY IS THIS GAP?].
This book contain two chapters, first chapter illustrate the various types of elder abuse happenning in the family, written in a story format. The second chapter deals with the solutions to solve this gap between these two generations. Total page is 144, the cost of the book is Rs.90/-.
I am sure that this book will be an Eye-Opener to scrupulous youngsters at least, if not to the entire society!!!!!.
Inauguration of “Geriatric Homeopathy Clinic”
Padmashri Dr.V.S.Natarajan, Senior Geriatrician & Patron, Senior Citizen Bureau has inaugurted “Geriatric Homeopthy Clinic” at No.15/41, Vembuli Amman Koil Street, Pazhavanthangal – 600 114 on 18-01-2015 which is run by Dr.R.Lakshmi Devi, Consultant General & Geriatric Homoepath. Doctor’s Day Celebration
Indian Medical Association, Chennai Perambur has celebrated 2014 Doctor’s day celebration (along with PIMA’s 10th birthday & Family meet) in a very grand manner. Padmashri. Prof.Dr.V.S.Natarjan was the Chief Guest. Dr.S.Damodaran is the Guest of Honour.
Kongu Friends Family Meet held on 27-07-2014, at Kamaraj Hall, Chennai. Dr.V.S.Natarajan’s book titled “Yendrum Nalmudan Vazha” released by Actor Thiru.Sivakumar.
Dr.V.S.Natarajan written so far 30 books which includes both in Tamil and English. He also released one CD containing 14 books (7 English & 7 Tamil). Senior film actor Mr.Sivakumar recently released his Tamil book titled “Yendrum Nalamudan Vazha”. It is his 30th book. This book consists of 31 articles and 20 Question & Answers. This book stresses the importance of millets in the diet and vaccination to prevent infectious diseases. There is a separate article about male menopause. He has written in detail about the causes and management of kidney failure. There is a separate article about elder abuse and he has suggested some practical points to prevent it. The articles about mercy killing in the new born and in the elderly are worth mentioning. Finally he concluded this informative and useful book by questioning about the generation gap. Every family should keep this book in their house to guide their family members.

35TH AGM CELEBRATION OF ALL INDIA FEDERATION OF PENSIONERS’ ASSN.
All India Federation of Pensioners’ Associations celebrated its “35th Annual General Meeting on 23-7-2014 & 24-07-2014 at Alamelumanga Kalyana Mandapam, Chennai – 17. Thiru.L.Ganesan, General Secretary, BJP party, Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest and released the book titled “Endrum Nalamudan vazha” (Immunity) in Tamil, Dr.K.Sampthkumar (Siddha) has written this book and is published by Vikatan publications. Dr.V.S.Natarajan written a foreword about this book. This book is entirely a different one which deals with all aspects of immunity and related subjects. Dr.V.S.Natarajan given talk about “Immunity, Infection, Immunisation”.
HEALTH MAINTENANCE CONFERENCE FOR OLDER ADULTS
It is a joint venture of Senior Geriatrician Padmashri Dr.V.S.Natarajan and Vetri holistic wellness centre, Tirupur. Padma Bhushan Thiru Vaira Muthu released book titled :Mudhumaiyai Velvom” written by Dr.V.S.Natarajan. Dr.V.S.Natarajan given talk on “Ageing an Introduction”
In this conference importance of periodic health checkup is stressed. To maintain mental health, the importance of meditation and pranayamam are stressed. To prevent infectious disease, vaccination programme is organized in this camp. To reduce the generation gap, special talk is arranged to advice younger as well as older generations. Problems of the elderly woman are specially discussed in this conference. Example: menopause, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, thyroid problem. Role of alternative medicine is also stressed in this conference.
The main objective of the Conference to give an awareness for the people of above the age of 50, regarding medical, mental and social problems, so that they can lead a happy and healthy ageing.

In commomerate to the 153rd Birth anniversary celeberation of Dr.Visvesvariah, Anna Nagar Tower Park Users Association organised a mega health check up camp under the leadership of Padmashree Dr.V.S.Natarajan on 15.9.2013. 125 patients were treated for Ortho related problems.
Anna nagar constituency MLA Mrs. Gokula Indra along with Mr.Chandrashekar Tandapani President, Mr. Baskar, Secretary, Mr.Antony, Treasurer of the Tower Park User Association garlanded the portrait of Dr.Visvesariah, as mark of respect on his 153rd birth day for his contribution in the engineering industry.
Students of Thiru Vi Ka Higher Secondary School participated in the function and spoke on the contribution made by Dr.Visvesariah as a mark of inspiration drawn upon to them to follow his guidelines.

Padmashri Dr.V.S.Natarajan “Mudhumaiye Vaa…Vaa..Vaa..” (Welcome Old age) book release function took place on 20-08-2013 at Music Academy Mini Hall, Chennai-18. The function started with prayer followed by cultural dance by Ms.Janani Poopalan. The dignitaries on the dais were 101 years old Mr.Neelakandan, Tamil Scholar Dr.Sellampolli Chellappanar, multi talented aristocrat Padmashri Dr.Avvai Natarajan and well known Tamil debate speaker Mrs. Bharathy Baskar and father of Indian Geritric Medicine Padmashri Dr.V.S.Natarajan. The speech of Mr.Neelakandan and all the three Chief Guest gets the audience well bound. Padmashri Dr.V.S.Natarajan shared his experience about writing the book. The difficulties encountered and about various new topics in the book. Welcome address was delivered by Mr.Murugaiyan, Member, Senior Citizens Bureau and vote of thanks by Dr.Divya.
About the Book
The doctor has authored this book through the experience he has gained over the last thirty years by listening to various problems of elders, examining and treating them. Immense effort has been taken to make this book a ready reckoner for all old age related issues. In relation to this, our doctor has written various articles on geriatric problems in magazines like harmony, Doctor vikadan, Kumudam health and Mangayar malar. The best articles have been selected and published in this book, along with several refreshingly new informations.
When it comes to disease, prevention is always better than cure keeping this fact in mind, several strategies for disease prevention such as regular health checkup, healthy diet, exercises and vaccination for elders have been discussed in detail in the first part of this book.
“Different doctors for different diseases” is the dictum that prevails amongst most elders today. The physical, mental and financial trauma caused by poly pharmacy has been discussed in detail.
Since most elders do not go out often, they are more prone for vitamin D deficiency and hence the bones lose their strength. To stress this, an exclusive article has been written about this.
Even now there is a lower level of awareness prevailing amongst the common people with regards to the role of a geriatrician and hence it has been explained in detail.
Lot of elders’ hesistate to discuss their minor issues frankly with doctors. And doctors also find the time to clear all their doubts patiently.
